About SenseCalc

Practical instrumentation and sensor calculators for technicians, controls engineers, and maintenance teams.

Who this site is for

SenseCalc is built for instrumentation technicians and the people around them: apprentices learning loop checks, controls engineers verifying scaling, and maintenance teams calibrating transmitters in the field.

Why it exists

Instrument work runs on numbers that are easy to get slightly wrong: the engineering value behind 12.0 mA, the temperature behind 138.5 ohms, the raw counts behind 50 percent, the RPM behind 10 kHz, or the gain and offset behind a two-point trim. Small errors compound into misranged transmitters, failed loop checks, scrapped batches, or lost shifts. This site exists to make those numbers checkable in minutes, with every assumption visible on the page.

What you will find here

  • Calculators with visible math: every input, formula, and output is shown, so a result can be verified by hand or against code tables.
  • Named coefficients and module profiles: Callendar-Van Dusen constants, copper resistivity, NAMUR NE43 thresholds, and S7/AB raw-count ranges, always sourced, always labeled as starting points rather than site facts.
  • Practical guides: worked examples that pair a parameter table with a hand calculation you can reproduce, written so an apprentice can follow and a journeyman can skim.
  • A private Workspace: save assumptions and reports for jobs, quotes, and comparisons without exposing client data.

How content is produced and reviewed

Each calculator ships with machine-checked test cases: fixed inputs must reproduce fixed outputs before the tool is published. Coefficients carry their source (CVD constants, copper resistivity, NAMUR NE43, PLC manuals) and are reviewed annually against current manufacturer tables. Guides cite their sources and show the full arithmetic of every worked example. When a reader reports an error through Contact, the page is corrected and the correction is noted.

What this site is not

SenseCalc is a planning and reference tool. It is not a substitute for manufacturer manuals, site procedures, or the judgment of a qualified instrument engineer on site. A calculator output is not an approval, a permit, a quote, or a guarantee of performance. Read the Disclosure before relying on any result.
