Professional-use disclosure

Use the numbers as a starting point. Field conditions, codes, and manufacturer limits always win over a web page.

Screening outputs, not approvals

Calculator results, reference values, guides, and Workspace reports are provided for informational screening. They are not engineering advice, not a code compliance determination, not a substitute for manufacturer manuals, calibration procedures, or applicable codes and standards.

Code and authority having jurisdiction come first

Where this site discusses loop sizing, barrier drops, or calibration practice, the equipment manufacturer instructions, the site procedure, and the judgment of the qualified instrument engineer always govern. If a calculator result and a manufacturer limit disagree, the manufacturer limit wins. Loop commissioning and transmitter trimming should be performed or supervised by qualified persons in accordance with site rules.

Loop papers and nameplates must be verified

  • Confirm the current loop papers: transmitter range and units, module profile and raw-count limits, barrier and isolator drops, and supply voltage.
  • Confirm measured history: the series mA reading, the 250-ohm sampling voltage, and the DCS trend for the same minute.
  • Confirm equipment facts: nameplate ranges, RTD type and lead wiring, resistor tolerance and power rating, and encoder PPR with decode mode.

No conflicts, no paid placement

Calculator defaults and guide examples are editorial choices, not endorsements. The site does not accept payment to favor equipment, installers or vendors in its tools or content. If that ever changes for a specific page, the relationship will be stated on that page.
